Brompton bikes are back for a 4th collaboration with CHPT3 to create a lightweight folding bike that combines the best of the latest Brommie titanium performance tech at a more affordable price point… and topped off with a few nice limited edition details. Now by mixing steel & ti in the frameset construction, this Brompton x CHPT3 v4 keeps both weight & price lower, while retaining the comfortable and lively ride that is easy to take along on any travels. The best bike is truly the one you have with you when you have time to ride…

Brompton x CHPT3 v4 steel & titanium folding bike

Brompton has partnered with ex-road pro David Millar and his CHPT3 lifestyle brand to create limited editions of the lightweight Brompton folders since 2018, with Millar using his Brompton to zip around behind the scenes at the Tour de France where he has been a race commentator. The idea had always been to mix road style performance with the classic Brommie portability.

Now this latest 4th generation of the Brompton x CHPT3 collaboration marries recently updated titanium highlights from the ultra-premium T Line and the ultralight 4-speed 60g derailleur drivetrain from the lightweight P Line. And of course, CHPT3 combined its introduction with their new limited edition Transit riding sneakers.

What’s new?

With respect to Brompton overall, there’s very little here that’s totally new – instead, it’s more of a new high-performance mix. The Brompton x CHPT3 folder is essentially an upgraded version of the superlight steel & ti P Line, adding nicer 35mm tanwall Schwalbe One road tires, lighter Tubolito tunes, the titanium stem of the T Line, a short fit saddle, ergonomic grips, and a custom mini frame bag that tucks into the triangle just above the BB to carry a spare tube, multi-tool & inflator.

Construction-wise, the Brompton x CHPT3 v4 gets the newest UK-made titanium rear triangle for comfort with larger 54mm diameter roller for easier moving while folded, and an upgraded suspension block for a more firm feel under power. Up front, it gets a matching titanium fork, and the collapsible titanium stem extension. In between is a brazed, heat-treated steel main frame to reduce cost without any real performance loss (as opposed to the ti main frame of the v3) painted in CHPT3 red & grey.

The new Brompton x CHPT3 also shares the lightweight 4-speed drivetrain of the P Line with Brompton’s own custom-made derailleur & mini 11-13-15-18T cassette. To save weight, this special edition does not feature the built-in lighting, full-coverage fenders, or QR front bag attachment of the standard P Line. But all the mountain
