There’s nothing quite like an overnight gravel getaway to Catalina Island! After we had such a blast last year exploring and camping on the nearby island of LA County, we are returning this weekend with an even bigger group of friends. A bikepacking overnighter to Catalina may be the best way to experience the 22-mile long island, as it’s possible to ride from Avalon to Two Harbors via the great system of gravel roads and broken pavement that are accessible with a Freewheeler Bike Pass that’s available to Catalina Island Conservancy members. Camping is made easy by booking a Tent Cabin at Two Harbors Campground, eliminating the need to bring sleeping pads and tents. Catalina’s Airport in the Sky is a great spot to stop for lunch both days, while dinner and breakfast can be enjoyed at the Harbor Reef Restaurant in Two Harbors. Be sure to follow us on Instagram for content from the overnighter, and here I’ll share my personal setup and gear list for the weekend. A big thank you to Ben Z who has done most of the leg work to get our Dev Team overnighter booked and organized. Let’s go!
